Small-Print Reading Aid
Many of us need help from time to time reading small print such as contracts, classified ads and phone directories. For extended periods of reading, "reader" glasses are of course the optic of choice. But for occasional use, a quality handheld magnifier gives you the flexibility of varying the magnification to suit the text, and also serves many other useful functions around the house.
You should always choose a large-diameter, low power magnifier, such as the 4-inch (100mm) diameter Zeiss D6-AR for reading; you will want to hold the magnifier somewhat closer to the text than to your eye, and the wide field of view of this glass makes reading full-page-width lines of text more comfortable and convenient. The Multi-Layer Anti-Reflective coating of this model is also a great benefit for reading, as you often do not have control over the position and brightness of room lights, which can cause distracting glare when they reflect from uncoated surfaces.
